At the Geneva International Motor Show Hyundai Motor Co. will introduce the HED-5 “i-Mode”. The focus for this year’s concept car is a combination of visionary styling with future technologies and advanced eco-dynamics. It lead to a 6-seater monocab study that incorporates high-tech materials, a world premiere seating concept and state of the art communication solutions into a completely new vehicle impression. The i-Mode is an innovatively styled, eco-friendly and socially adaptive vehicle. The imposing mono-volume architecture provides an invitation to travel, explore and relax within the concept of moving cocoon.

Hyundai’s engineering partner Keiper supported the i-Mode project with the exclusive world premiere of its new and unique Swivel Seat concept. The first row passenger seat cleverly rotates to face second and third row occupants. When the seat is turned in a flowing movement, the backrest converts into an equally comfortable seat surface. This is made possible by a fully concealed, power-operated kinematic system. The integrated seatbelt system – another technically advanced debut – and the adjustable headrest maximize passive safety for passengers in either sitting position. The second row bench slides rearwards to increase comfort and create a social space for communication. This seat concept intelligently avoids problems of complex or flexible seat mounting weaknesses.

Monday, March 17th, 2008

The El-Camino is back in the form of the all-new Pontiac G8 Sport Truck that will go on sale in the North American market in late 2009. Just like its G8 sedan sibling, the Sport Truck is based on the corresponding Holden Commodore model, which bears the “Ute” nametag in Australia.

But don’t hurry and call it the “Sport Truck” because Pontiac has launched an online competition to find a name for its new vehicle. “Because its fans will surely be as unique as the vehicle itself, we’re giving them a voice in selecting a name that reflects its appeal”, said Craig Bierley, Pontiac marketing director The winning entry will be announced April 15.

Based on the G8 sedan, the Sport Truck has a longer wheelbase and a cargo bed (with an available soft tonneau cover). Additionally, there’s 8.5 cubic feet (245 liters) interior cargo area behind the seats. Compared to the sedan, the 118.5-inch (3,009 mm) wheelbase is approximately four inches longer and the overall length is six inches longer. The cargo bed measures at 73.9-inch (1878 mm) in length and has 42.7 cubic feet (1208 L) of space while it can carry a payload of more than 1,074 pounds (488 kg) and tow a 3,500-pound (1,600 kg) trailer.

Power comes from the same 6.0L V-8 engine used in the G8 GT that delivers 361 Hp and 385 lb.-ft. (522 Nm) of torque. The V8 is matted to a 6-speed automatic transmission and according to Pontiac; it has a 0-to-60 time of 5.4 sec. Monday, March 17th, 2008

Joining the all-new Pontiac G8 Sport Truck Ute at the New York Show next week is the G8 GXP sedan. To make it simple, the G8 GXP is a more powerful and sportier version of the G8 GT. Power comes from a detuned version of the Corvette’s LS3 6.2-liter V8 that delivers 402 Hp and 402 lb.-ft. of torque (546 Nm). That’s compared to the 367 Hp, 6.0-liter V8 in the G8 GT.

Porsche Traveller Concept: Luckily, It’s Not Official

Porsche Traveller Concept: Luckily,

A compact crossover model from Porsche wouldn’t be a bad idea at all. What would be bad is if someone at Porsche happened to see Ivan Volkov’s Traveller Concept and liked the design. The independent designer makes a fuzzy referral of a two-part construction in his website, something that can be seen in the sketches after the jump. However, it’s unclear how or where the third set of wheels is hiding.

2009 Nissan Maxima Teaser Shots

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

About a week before the all-new, 2009 Maxima makes its worldwide debut at the New York Auto Show and Nissan has released a set of teaser images in an attempt to grasp our attention. The pictures reveal only a few details of the mid-size sedan including the headlights, alloy wheels and the rear-end of the car. An interesting detail is the “4DSC – 4 Door Sports Car” tag that appears on all pics and, as a sticker on the rear window. We’ll have more on the 2009 Maxima when Nissan takes off the covers at the NY Show opening on March 19 –that is unless someone decides to lift the curtains earlier…

Scorched Ferrari F430 Spider for $110k

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

Would you be tempted to take out $110k from your bank account to acquire a semi-burnt 2007 Ferrari F430 Spider? The damage looks fixable at first sight and a new F430 Spider would actually set you back more than $200k. However, we’re talking about a Ferrari and you all know what that means when it comes to repairs – let alone the huge depreciation in value that these cars suffer after an accident. The seller, which happens to specialize in Ferrari parts, has created a list with most (not all…) of the things you’ll need to replace. The estimated cost for the parts (used and new) is around $16k but we have no idea if the prices include labor.

On the outside, the C3 Pluriel features larger chevrons in the centre of the radiator grille, new headlamps with a “smoky” look and a darker shade of orange for the indicators along with a new dark grey painted bumper grille. Echoing the front end, the chevrons are also bigger at the rear end of the vehicle while at the same time, the color of the rear light trim changes from aluminum grey to black. Inside, all versions of the 2009 C3 Pluriel now have the same black interior design, while Citroen also added polished chrome trim on the door handles, the air vent surrounds and the gear lever.
